The first experience someone has with CrossFit Armati is through our no-sweat intro. It’s an opportunity to sit down with one of our coaches or the client success manager to learn as much as possible about you, what you want to achieve, what drives you, what is keeping you from getting there, and more. A question we ask during these meetings is, “Why do you need our help?”. The most common response is, “I know what I need to do, but I just need someone to tell me to do it.” People are looking for accountability. If that’s you, keep reading.
Let’s dive into that. When I get this reply, it leads me to a couple of questions.
- How would you feel as a grown adult having another adult hold your hand, checking on you, and telling you what to do?
- How many texts do you think I could send you asking about where you are and what you’ve been doing before you ignore, block, or ask me to stop?
After diving into these questions, most people tell me they do not want this type of accountability, and that’s when we get into what accountability looks like at CrossFit Armati. So, how do we think about accountability at CrossFit Armati?
Accountability starts with culture. Seriously. Hear me out. The dictionary defines culture as the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a social group, also the characteristic features of everyday existence (such as diversions or a way of life) shared by people in a place in time. Cool…so what?
At CrossFit Armati, we strive to maintain a culture that forges consistency. That means we want our gym to be a place you show up to over and over again over time and if you do that, we know you’ll see progress. Our culture is how we do that. We will dive into the values that shape our culture in a later post. For now, let’s stick with the accountability part.
So now, our gym has a growth-focused culture—one that challenges you regularly, pushes adaptations, and leads to growth for those who show up. I describe it like a flowing river. If you come to the river and simply jump in, the current is going to carry you forward. That current is a group of like-minded people striving to grow. Just being surrounded by it will help you grow over time as well. But if you start swimming with the current, you can really move.
So if we aren’t going to hold your hand and tell you what to do, how do we hold you accountable? Simple, here are a few ways:
- Having a clearly defined mission for you with checkpoints that come from your “why.” Making sure we balance INTERNAL motivations with external ones.
- Programming workouts that are safe, efficient, and effective. Ensuring you can keep doing workouts, you don’t spend forever doing them; they get results. You’re not just doing random work for the sake of doing work.
- Maintaining a tribe of rad individuals coming together daily to challenge themselves, fail, and grow together.
So, the question is, are you ready to jump in and swim with us, or will you stand on the dock watching others continue to live the life you want?
